ISLAMOPHOBIA – INTERNATIONAL DAY TO COMBAT ISLAMOPHOBIA

Islamophobia Day - International Day to Combat Islamophobia

Islamophobia is the fear of Islam or Muslims, hatred of Islam or Muslims or any form of prejudice against Islam or Muslims. Islam is greatly misunderstood and projected in a negative way by those who do not understand real Islam. Islamophobia has increased significantly across the world despite almost a quarter of the world being Muslims who follow the religion of Islam.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan on behalf of Organisation of Islamic Cooperation introduced the International Day to Combat Islamophobia (also known as Islamophobia Day) to the United Nations.

The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution by consensus on 15 March 2022, it was proclaimed as International Day to Combat Islamophobia.

You can watch a speech on Islamophobia made by Imran Khan, Prime Minister of Pakistan at the 74th United Nations General Assessmbly session below:

Islam, the religion of peace is the second largest religion and the fastest growing religion in the world with predictions it will become the largest religion in the world between 2050 – 2075.  Currently there are more than 2 billion Muslims in the world which represents approximately 24.9% of the world’s population. It is therefore important for Muslims and non Muslims to learn and understand what real Islam is so that it can be better understood and projected in the right way to combat Islamophobia. This will help prevent fear, hatred, violence and all other forms of prejudism against Islam and Muslims. It will also help everyone across the world to respect each other and live together in peace and harmony.
